“ | Azula: I can see your whole history in your eyes. You were born with nothing, so you've had to struggle, and connive, and claw your way to power. But true power, the divine right to rule, is something you're born with. The fact is, they don't know which one of us is going to be sitting on that throne, and which one is going to be bowing down. But I know, and you know. Well? Long Feng: You've beaten me at my own game. Azula: Don't flatter yourself! You were never even a player. |

What's up, amigos?! Yomickayha382 back again with another SV proposal for y'all! Earlier today, I made a poll asking "which character should I propose next?" and the choices were Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender and Marlo Stanfield from The Wire. Since Azula won, she beats Marlo and will get her proposal... rightnow! Everyone, meet the snarky, deranged and tragic Fire Nation princess herself who is the daughter of Ozai and sister of Zuko: Azula!
Let the discussion begin.
What's the Work?[]
Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of those works that everyone knows and loves, but for those who've been living under a rock for the past 20 years, it's about a pair of waterbending siblings who free a kid from a thaw of ice. Unbeknownst to them, the kid is actually a 12 year-old boy who is the last known airbender to exist, and they must become Team Avatar in order to defeat the evil lord of the Fire Nation, Ozai, and foil his plans to destroy the Earth Kingdom so that the Fire Nation can dominate the planet.
Who is She?[]
Princess Azula is the secondary antagonist. She is the princess of the Fire Nation, the daughter of Ozai and Ursa, the younger sister of Prince Zuko and the former friend of Mai and Ty Lee. She seeks the love and approval of her abusive father and wants to surpass her brother in each and every way.
What Makes Her a Shonen Villain?[]
Basic Traits[]
- Villainous/Anti-Villainous: She tried to drill through Ba Sing Se, briefly killed Aang, suggested to Ozai to burn down the Earth Kingdom and unfairly tried to kill Katara during an Agni Kai when she was actually meant to be fighting Zuko.
- Powerful/Skillful: She is one of the best firebenders.
- Power-Hungry: She seeks to outdo Zuko in every way and wants to be the future ruler of the Fire Nation.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: Her main goal is to aid Ozai in his crimes as long as he is proud of her.
- Arrogant: She boasts about how she used Long Feng for personal gain when she betrays him.
- Intelligent: She is a highly cunning villainess, using her charisma to sway others onto her side and succeeding in several of her goals.
- Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: She is a cold-blooded and almost heartless girl who will do anything for power and acceptance.
- Short-Tempered: She constantly loses her cool.
- Narcissistic: She is proud of herself and every crime she commits.
- Has a Sinister Laugh: She sometimes laughs in an intimidating manner.
Bonus Traits[]
- Sadistic: She has no qualms about who she hurts and notably takes pleasure when she destroys a kid's sandcastle at the beach.
- Tragic Past: She is the product of an extremely unhealthy environment where her mother Ursa left her behind in favor of Zuko and had her raised by her abusive father Ozai, whom she feared disappointing and failing. She was also moulded into a war machine against her will and was shattered mentally when her friends betrayed her and Ozai rewarded with an essentially useful position of power, leading to her insanity.
- Serves as a Foil to the Hero/Protagonist: She is the evil counterpart of Zuko, who seeks peace and kindness whereas Azula craves power and attention.
- Bloodthirsty: She is willing to take as many lives as possible, so long as her plans are successful.
- Is a Dark Lord: In the sequel comics, she gave Zuko many more corrupting qualities and caused him to become a questionable, if not tyrannical figure.
- Has Black Air Force Energy: She doesn't have regard for human lives and frequently breaks the rules.
Final Verdict[]
Is this even a question? Undeniably easy yes to Azula, but it's your choice. Thanks for reading and have a great day!
