Something I should let you know about is that some of the information is copied from Griffith's Seinen Villain Page but ultimately, I've received permission to use it so it isn't against any rules.
What's The Work[]
I think we all know what Berserk is.
Who Is He[]
Griffith is the main antagonist of Berserk and the codifier for the Seinen Villain Archetype.
What Makes Him A Shonen Villain[]
- Villainous: Griffith betrayed his comrades by sacrificing them to be devoured by the Apostles so that he can become a deity.
- Powerful: Griffith is a nigh-omnipotent being who happens to hold power over a great empire.
- Power-Hungry: Griffith desires to become a god who has his very own kingdom.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: Griffith desires to become a god who has his very own kingdom.
- Arrogant: Griffith is incredibly narcissistic and egotistical which became worse after becoming Femto.
- Intelligent: As the leader of the Band of the Hawk, Griffith is shown to be a proficient strategist.
- Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: Griffith is a villain willing to do anything to achieve his dream.
- Freudian Excuse: Griffith grew up as an orphan struggling to survive through poverty, which motivates him to desire a kingdom. However, this trauma doesn't take away from the damage he caused by betraying his friends for power.
- Serves as a Foil to the Hero/Protagonist: Whereas Guts believes that people can find happiness despite a long life of hardship, Griffith values power as a form of making his life meaningful.
Verdict[]
I would give Griffith an easy yes because HE DID EVERYTHING WRONG.
