Tenko Shimura, better known as Tomura Shigaraki, is the main antagonist of the My Hero Academia franchise. He is the arch-nemesis of the series' main protagonist, Izuku "Deku" Midoriya.
He is the leader of the League of Villains, with the main goal of becoming Japan's next great villain. Following his fight with the Meta Liberation Army, he combines his organization with theirs, thus becoming the grand commander of the Paranormal Liberation Front.
In Japanese, he is voiced by Kōki Uchiyama and Arisa Sekine as a child in Japanese. In English, he is voiced by Eric Vale and Emily Fajardo as a child.
What Makes Him a Shonen Villain?[]
- Villainous/Anti-Villainous: He attempts to kill the U.A. High School students to lure All Might out in his first appearance, started the Paranormal Liberation War, destroyed a third of Jaku City with a large decay wave and tried to wipe out all of humanity in an attempt to destroy society once and for all.
- Powerful/Skillful: He is a decently powerful character, being the leader of the League of Villains and grand commander of the Paranormal Liberation Front. He even manages to break free from All For One's control over him.
- Power-Hungry: Being an Omnicidal Maniac, he craves power.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: He always remains true to his goal to destroy the world and all of Japan and becomes progressively worse as the series continues.
- Arrogant: He thinks he's better than All Might and all of hero society in general.
- Intelligent: He is one of the smartest antagonists in the series, having numerous cunning feats.
- Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: He's uncaring to the pain and suffering of others more often than not.
- Short-Tempered: He gets furious over the smallest things, such as not being recognized for the Nomus that attacked Hosu's civilians.
- Is a Game Changer: By the time of the final battle, he's presented as the biggest threat period on the villain's side and the main reason why the heroes' efforts to finish things on a united front.
- Sadistic: He has a childish sense of sadism and derives pleasure from seeing/making others suffer or lose their lives.
- Tragic Past: He was abused by his father just for wanting to be a superhero and was later tricked by All For One into killing his own family (with his only intentional kill being his father who pretty much deserved it) before being groomed and trained into a vessel of total destruction, making even Deku want to save him. It’s also revealed All For One organized his entire life and gave him decay, making him a victim of the latter.
- Serves as a Foil to the Hero/Protagonist: His antagonistic role and beliefs are at odds with his archenemy, Izuku.
- Bloodthirsty: He loves hurting people so much that he risked the world's destruction so he and the League of Villains could remake it in their image.
- Laughably Evil: He's not taken completely seriously, with a few funny scenes like making a remark about a "continue" coming up when he was confronted by All Might, killing a hero and stealing his cape just because he felt cold and buying sushi and a villa for his friends with a Re-Destro.
