Tighten: You can run, Megamind, but you can't hide!
Mayor: We're saved. We're saved! What's your name, new hero?
Tighten: It's Tighten.
Mayor: Thank you, thank you! Tighten has freed us!
Tighten: Oh, I wouldn't say "freed". More like... "under new management".
~ Tighten before taking over Metro City as well as his most famous quote.

Hal Stewart, better known as Tighten, is the main antagonist of DreamWorks Animation's 21st full-length animated feature film Megamind.

He is a former cameraman of Roxanne Ritchi who later becomes a egotistical supervillain after he was hit by the serum of Megamind in an attempt to a create a new superhero that horribly gone wrong. He is also Megamind's ultimate arch-nemesis.

What Makes Him A Shonen Villain?[]

  • Villainous: Tighten attempts to destroy a city purely out of being rejected.
  • Powerful/Skillful: Due to having Metro Man's powers, he is very powerful.
  • Power-Hungry: He takes over metrocity.
  • Pursues a Big-End Goal: His goal is to destroy metrocity.
  • Arrogant: Tighten often underestimates those he perceives as weak, especially Megamind.
  • Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: He almost kills Roxanne just because she rejected him.
  • Short-Tempered: Clearly shown when he almost kills Roxanne.
  • Laughably Evil: He has a few moments where his stupidity is clearly played for laughs.
  • Psychopathic: While he does seem to care about his "Space Step-Mom", he has no qualms about harming others or even throwing his neighbour under a bus.
  • Narcissistic: His whole motivation is based on someone rejecting him which is a very egotistical thing to have.
  • Sadistic: He clearly enjoys being a villain.
  • Freudian Excuse: Hal hasn't accomplished anything, he was already uncaring towards a people people, he has a creepy unhealthy obsession of Roxanne, after obtaining Metro Man's superpower, he became a supervillain.
  • Serves as a Foil to the Hero/Protagonist: Megamind is a highly intelligent superhero who was pushed into villainy and takes a lot of responsibility while Tighten is an idiot who refuses to take responsibility and was pushed into heroism.
  • Bloodthirsty: Tighten takes pleasure in hurting innocent people, including Roxanne after she rejects him.
  • Is a Game Changer: In comparison to the other villains in the film, he pretty much darkens the mood due to how powerful and intimidating he is.
  • Is a Secondary-Color Nemesis: He wears an orange outfit.
  • Has Black Air Force Energy: He attempts to destroy the city, and clearly does not respect the rights of Roxanne Ritchi.
  • Immature: He drew a picture that looks like it was made by a child, and his motive is extremely petty.
