Buddy Pine, better known as Syndrome, is the main antagonist of Pixar's 6th full-length feature film The Incredibles.

He was voiced by Jason Lee.

What Makes Him a Shonen Villain?[]

  • Villainous: Syndrome lured over a dozen superheroes to his lair and killing them by having them fight his Omnidroids, attempts to kill innocent people with his Omnidroid and even launches missiles aiming at Elastigirl's plane with her children Violet and Dash in it.
  • Skillful: Syndrome is highly skilled in inventing zero-point energy weapons and robots.
  • Power-Hungry: Syndrome wants to become a superhero in the eye of the public and sell his technology so everyone with no superpowers can become superheroes.
  • Pursues a Big-End Goal: As mentioned above, Syndrome wants to create a society where non-superheroes can be powerful thanks to his technology so they can no longer need real superheroes.
  • Arrogant: As a result of his brilliance, Syndrome is extremely egotistical and tends to look down on others, especially superheroes.
  • Intelligent: Despite being blinded by his massive ego as well as being fairly immature, Syndrome has been shown as a brilliant inventor, as he created rocket boots at 10 years old.
  • Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: Syndrome has no redeeming qualities and has no issues with hurting and/or kidnapping innocent children, as seen as launches missiles at Violet and Dash and kidnapping Jack-Jack, who is only a baby.
  • Short-Tempered: Syndrome has a tendency of throwing temper tantrums like a bratty child despite being a grown man in his 20s.
  • Psychopathic: Aside from being a murderer, Syndrome is a narcissist with an exaggerated sense of superiority who holds absolutely no moral boundaries when targeting innocent people.
  • Laughably Evil: While still being taken seriously in-universe, Syndrome's constant fanboying, use of innuendos and snarky sense of humor provide laughter to the audience.
  • Sadistic: Syndrome is shown to take obvious pleasure in torturing and killing his enemies.
  • Freudian Excuse: As a kid, Syndrome faced being rejected by his idol Mr. Incredible after wanting to be his sidekick. However, even before his fall from grace, he had no desire to be a true hero and only wanted to be famous.
  • Has Incompetent Minions: Syndrome's minions are not capable of taking down the Supers on their own.
  • Is a Game Changer: While he has a comedic side to him, it doesn't take away from how much of a murderous threat Syndrome is to the whole world.
  • Is a Secondary-Color Nemesis: Syndrome has dyed his hair red-orange, and his costume is black.
