“ | What truth? That I plucked the cogs from your newborn chests?! Forced you to mine so that I could pay off the Quintessons and live like a king?! None of that matters! Because the truth... is... what... I... MAKE IT! | „ |
~ Sentinel's monologue to the main protagonists as he is about to attack them, and his most famous quote. |
Sentinel, falsely known as Sentinel Prime, is the main antagonist of Transformers One.
He is voiced by Jon Hamm.
What Makes Him a Shonen Villain?[]
- Villainous/Anti-Villainous: Sentinel betrayed and massacred the 13 Primes to appease the Quintessons, removed the cogs from newborn Cybertronians to turn them into slaves working in the dangerously unstable Energon mines, decapitated Alpha Trion to spite the heroes, brutally tortured D-16, and posthumously started the war between the Autobots and Decepticons.
- Powerful/Skillful: He is one of the most powerful Transformers in the movie, as he possesses Megatronus' cog and has many weapons and abilities, and has control over the entirety of Iacon and an army of Trackers.
- Power-Hungry: Sentinel craves power, as shown by how he betrayed the Thirteen Primes to the Quintessons for the Matrix of Leadership and become leader of Iacon
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: His main goal is to maintain his position as the leader of Cybertron and claim the Matrix of Leadership for himself.
- Arrogant: Sentinel is very egomaniacal, as he believes the truth is what he makes it and that he is just as great as Megatronus.
- Intelligent: He fooled everyone into thinking he was a true Prime for 50 cycles and practically nobody thought otherwise.
- Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: He callously sold out to the Quintessons for power, not caring if Cybertron would die from his ruthless mining of energon.
- Short-Tempered: He kills Alpha Trion in a fit of rage over another "speech".
- Laughably Evil: While he is played dead seriously in-universe, he has some comedic moments such as him laughing at Orion Pax and D-16's participation in the Iacon 5000 Race and him mocking Starscream's distorted voice.
- Psychopathic: He only cares about himself and views his subordinates as pure dirt.
- Narcissistic: Sentinel is quite a narcissist, to the point it is implied he doesn't transform because of his desire to be seen by all in his robot mode, and that he has buildings made in his image in Iacon.
- Has a Sinister Laugh: He laughs at Orion and D-16 when the two thought they would be demoted for joining the Iacon 5000.
- Sadistic: Sentinel enjoyed tormenting D-16 by showing him his cog and later destroying his Megatronus Prime sticker and turning it into a mockery of the Prime's face.
- Serves as a Foil to the Hero/Protagonist: He is a foil of Optimus Prime, as while Optimus was a normal Cybertronian who never desired power in any sort and wanted what was best for Cybertron, Sentinel was a former advisor of the Primes who wanted even more power, not caring if the planet died in the process. Also, Optimus was good at giving heroic speeches, while Sentinel detests the entire concept of speeches, only giving them as a manipulation tactic.
- Is a Dark Lord: Sentinel's actions are what caused D-16 to snap and become Megatron, eventually plunging the entire planet of Cybertron into war.
- Has Black Air Force Energy: Sentinel completely threw out the entire order and peace that Cybertron used to have and created a dystopia where the lower classes would mine until their death.
