Compared to the SJK, Red John was nothing. An amateur. Already forgotten.
~ James Panzer about the SJK.

James Panzer, better known as The San Joaquin Killer and "SJK", was a minor antagonist in the TV-show The Mentalist and a rival of Red John.

He is portrayed by David Paymer.

What Makes Him A Shonen Villain?[]

  • Villainous/Anti-Villainous: Kills at least six 16-20 year old girls in brutal ways just for attention.
  • Powerful/Skillful: Not only is he a brutal and successful murderer, but is also a professional blogger.
  • Power-Hungry: Attention-seeking, more precisely.
  • Pursues a Big-End Goal: To be the coolest serial killer.
  • Arrogant: He is even more arrogant than Red John himself.
  • Intelligent: He shows his intelligent side when he diverts suspicion. One of police officers even says that he successfully created fake alibis for the time of at least of two murders.
  • Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: Towards his victims at least.
  • Psychopathic: A person, who kills for attention is definitely a psyhopath.
  • Narcissistic: It's his entire motivation.
  • Sadistic: Slowly kills his victims.
  • Bloodthirsty: Only six his victims are mentioned, and how else were there isn't told.
