“ | Allinol must be finished for good. McQueen cannot win the last race. Lightning McQueen must be killed! | „ |
~ Professor Z ordering the death of Lightning McQueen, and also his most famous quote. |
Professor Otto Wolfgang Zündapp, better known as simply Professor Zündapp or Professor Z, is the secondary antagonist of Pixar's 12th full-length animated feature film Cars 2.
He is a German weapons designer who works for Sir Miles Axlerod in his plot to turn the entire world against alternative fuels and make profit out of it.
He was voiced by Thomas Kretschmann in both the English and German versions of the film.
What Makes Him a Shonen Villain?[]
- Villainous: He is a cruel mad scientist who commits numerous heinous crimes in the film, such as having Grem and Acer crush Leland Turbo into a cube, torturing Rod Redline with the EMP weapon before personally killing him, having Grem and Acer use the EMP weapon on World Grand Prix racers and cause massive crashes that risked the lives of the racers, trying to kill Lightning McQueen with the death ray while forcing Mater to watch, and planting a bomb into Mater's hood that would be triggered to explode if Grem and Acer failed to kill McQueen and Mater headed into the pits, which would claim the lives of dozens to hundreds of innocent cars.
- Powerful/Skillful: He is skilled at designing sophisticated and destructive weapons, having created an Electromagnetic Pulse Emitter disguised as a World Grand Prix broadcasting camera used to target cars running on Allinol and explode their engines. He can also drive at a high speed, as shown when he is being chased by Finn McMissile in London.
- Power-Hungry: He desires to make money out of selling oil by helping Axlerod discredit Allinol as part of his plan to make alternative fuel look bad.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: He strives to aid Axlerod in his ultimate plan to make alternative fuel look bad through Allinol usage, going as far as to sabotage the World Grand Prix races and try to destroy the race cars taking part in them.
- Arrogant: He is highly arrogant as he constantly displays a condescending attitude and a sense of superiority due to his intelligence and knowledge of advanced weaponry. When it is revealed that he was not the one who activated the bomb on Mater, he arrogantly asks the heroes if anyone else would like to try right before being tasered by Holley.
- Intelligent: He is an intelligent and manipulative scientist who uses his talents for evil. He can be a described as a genius, as he invented an EMP weapon disguised as a World Grand Prix camera to target the racers' Allinol and cause them to crash when the pulse ignited the Allinol inside them.
- Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: He has no problem with killing spies or causing crashes during the World Grand Prix races as part of helping Axlerod make alternative fuel look bad, doing whatever it takes to eliminate any obstacles and keep the "project" on schedule.
- Psychopathic: He doesn't care about what he has to do to accomplish his goals, even if it means committing acts of murder and terrorism all out of anger and greed. Overall, he lacks any remorse for the crimes that he commits.
- Sadistic: He killed both Leland Turbo and Rod Redline in cold blood, and wanted Mater to witness McQueen's demise and was smiling when trying to activate the bomb to kill both Mater and McQueen.
- Freudian Excuse: He got mocked for being a Lemon car and was treated poorly in the past, although he doesn't seem to feel upset over being mocked.
- Has Incompetent Minions: His Lemon henchmen are dimwits, and all ultimately fail to stop Mater, Finn and Holley from foiling their plans.
- Bloodthirsty: He is willing to cause many car crashes during the World Grand Prix races and kill others who may know of Axlerod's plot.
- Is a Game Changer: One of the darker villains of the Cars franchise (as well as one of the darker villains of Pixar movies in general), killing two spies in the beginning of the second film.
