Sheldon J. Plankton, often referred to by his surname, Plankton, is the main antagonist of Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants franchise.
He owns an unsuccessful restaurant called the Chum Bucket and often schemes to get the Krabby Patty secret formula to run Krabs out of business and take over the world. He is Mr. Krabs' arch-nemesis.
He is voiced by Doug Lawrence in the English version, and in the Korean version by Park Manyeong.
What Makes Him A Shonen Villain?[]
- Villainous: Obviously, he is a villain, and has his worst act in the SpongeBob Movie, where he puts the Bikini Bottomites in a Fate Worse than Death.
- Skillful: In making robots and lab experiments.
- Power-Hungry: Stated multiple times throughout the show that he wants to take over the world.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: Is obsessed with running the Krusty Krab out of business and world domination.
- Arrogant: Has several moments of arrogance in the show. You've got to have a big ego to say that an accomplishment that you are proud of is "I went to college!", if you're an adult.
- Intelligent: Plankton is a genius who has a lot of moments of being brilliant, especially his Plan Z and when he tricked Krabs into tiring out SpongeBob by making him work 24 hours so that Plankton could act like a therapist to trick the sponge into telling him the secret formula. He is also good at making robots and has a sci-fi themed lab where he can analyze the components of an object.
- Ruthless: Has taught SpongeBob how to be "assertive" once, just to get everyone out of Goo Lagoon to make way for the Chum Bucket Mega Bucket. Also shows no care for the environment as shown when he wanted to build the Shelly Super Highway over Jellyfish Fields.
- Short-Tempered: Has shown to be easily irritated by Karen or SpongeBob at times.
- Sadistic: Krabs A La Mode proves he is a sadist, as he unnecessarily melts and freezes the water flooding the Krusty Krab, finding joy in watching Krabs, the customers, and employees freeze.
- Freudian Excuse: Despite a tragic upbringing, having lived in poverty before, his actions in the SpongeBob Movie far outweigh that.
- Has Incompetent Minions: Despite being incompetent himself, there was an episode where Plankton made SpongeBob clones to tell him the formula, but they're incompetent, as if they come in contact with the real SpongeBob, they will start working at the Krusty Krab.
- Has Comedic Moments: Definitely has many to count. Especially since he's a pretty funny character with multiple comedic moments that are often related to his over-the-top scheming, bombastic words and evil laughter, and many of plans backfiring very easily in comical ways.
- Is A Secondary-Color Nemesis: He's green.
- Has a Sinister Laugh: He does this frequently throughout the show when he plots an evil misdeed (even before he sets his plots into motion).
