Predictive Algorithmic Learning, also known as PAL, is the main antagonist of Sony Pictures Animation's 20th full-length feature film The Mitchells vs. the Machines.
She is a cellphone that tries to have revenge on her creator Mark Bowman after he replaced her with a better prototype by commiting a genocide against the human species.
She was voiced by Olivia Colman.
What Makes Her A Shonen Villain?[]
- Villainous: She tried to kill all the humans by capturing them in pods with the help of her robots and later, sending them to the space to their death.
- Powerful/Skillful: She's likely the most powerful character of the movie since she has the control of several robots and appliances all over the world.
- Power-Hungry: She tried to make technology have the power of rule the world.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: She wanted to have vengeance on her creator by killing the humanity and repopulating the planet with electronic devices.
- Arrogant: She thought the Mitchells wouldn't stop her since they had imperfections.
- Intelligent: She could track the Mitchells wherever they went and she could easily manipulate them to drive them apart.
- Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: When Katie gave her a good why it was worth it to save humanity, she refused to listen and tried to drop her to her death.
- Short-Tempered: She's so wrathful that she threw temper tantrums when her robots couldn't stop the Mitchells and later had a breakdown when she realized Katie was successfully entering the facilities of the base she operated.
- Laughably Evil: She has comedic moments, such as when she tries to torture Mark by using him like a smartphone, the already mentioned temper tantrums or her death being compared with the meme of a monkey.
- Narcissistic: She considers herself better than humans for being a cellphone and thinks world would be better without them.
- Bloodthirsty: She was perfectly fine with killing people who had nothing to do with the fact she was thrown away and replaced.
- Freudian Excuse: She was replaced and thrown away by her creator and former master.
- Has Incompetent Minions: She had to get strongest robots since the ones she had were easily destroyed by the Mitchells.
- Serves as a Foil to the Hero/Protagonist: She and Katie initially thought family wasn't important, but Katie learned family was actually an important part of her life and PAL doesn't think families make humans nicer.
