~ Oogie Boogie to Jack. |
Oogie Boogie is the main antagonist of the The Nightmare Before Christmas franchise. He is also a major antagonist in the Kingdom of Hearts franchise.
He is voiced by the late Ken Page.
What Makes Him a Shonen Villain?[]
- Villainous: On top of loving to scare children like other habitants in Halloween Town, the reason he is exiled from said town because of how much of a remorseless monster he quite literally is as the most sinister and malicious habitant of the town, such as wanting to kidnap Santa Claus so he can cook and kill him and also wanting to bet Jack's life in a casino he made.
- Skillful: Despite being shoddy at dice-rolling in gambling bets to the point of needing to cheat and deceive to win, he still has skills such as being good at cooking up stew meals, has great dancing and singing skills he improvised in his first appearance that shows a level of showmanship, and was more than capable of making his own lair to be designed like a casino-styled funhouse.
- Power-Hungry: Was more than willing to obtain any form of power, even if it means becoming a ten-story-high giant version of himself in order to fight Jack and conquer Halloween Town while taking over Jack's rule as king.
- Serves as a Foil to the Hero: He is meant to be the evil counterpart to Jack Skellington himself.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: Has seeks to overthrow Jack Skellington as the Pumpkin King to become the Seven Holidays King in the film, then he wanted to be the king of his own holiday called "Bug Day" in The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Pumpkin King, and he even tried taking over Halloween Town and turning it into "Oogie Town" and attempted killing his enemies such as Jack himself so he can rule supreme as the Seven Holidays King in The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge.
- Arrogant: He is shameless, sarcastic, smug, cocky and overall prideful in how much a traitorous gambling bogeyman he is, loves to taunt and mock anyone, and he is also very egotistical to the point he believes nobody can stop him from ruling with a iron fist even after receiving defeat.
- Intelligent: Is so smart that he can resort to using many card traps to kill Jack even when they backfire, and has also used his cleverness to manipulate Jack into creating two shadows of himself to distract Jack from facing the actual Oogie and trick him into thinking he was chasing after Oogie the whole time.
- Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: He has no mercy and qualms on those he wants to torture or kill, is feared and despised by many people for how "mean" he is, and doesn't seem to care about anyone but himself. It's not helping that he outright admits that he doesn't play fair with anyone when he gambles with the lives of others.
- Short-Tempered: Oogie can be quick-tempered, especially if Sally tries to outsmart him.
- Sadistic: Is very cruel to the point that he loves using harmful ways to give people nightmares instead of doing it in a harmless way, and has always shown to relish in inconviencing and torturing his victims he traps and holds hostage with hearty laughter and a sense of thrill in the villainy, even it means cooking his victims in some snake and spider stew or eating the Black Heart while laughing in Jack's face before summoning Heartless dragons in order to kill and overpower his enemies such as Jack and Sora.
- Bloodthirsty: He was more than willing to murder Sally, Santa and Jack Skellington himself. He also eats bugs (which means he's also a cannibal since he eats what he's made of).
- Psychopathic: Has shown to have a complete lack of remorse and empathy for others, even his allies who he works alongside with.
- Laughably Evil: A majority of Oogie's humorous moments comes from being bad at rolling dice, his ways of making fun of Santa such as his retorts he makes to mock Santa's "ugly" appearance and poking fun at his attempts at reasoning with him during his very introduction, the moment he lusted over Sally's leg in a comical way, generally being sassy/cheeky in a jovial and over-the-top fashion, and his hammy exuberant shouting applied to his egotistic claims being the selling points of his humor.
- Calls Out Attacks: Has yelled "FIRE!" to make his animatronics shoot Jack in the film he starred in.
- Is a Game Changer: For a film that is already spooky by tone, none of the residents of Halloween Town are like Oogie; a deranged mass murderer with a taste of torture and gore, having no redeeming qualities and is also a psychopath.
