Megatron (later known as Galvatron) is the main antagonist of The Transformers.

He was voiced by Frank Welker as Megatron and by the late Leonard Nimoy as Galvatron.

What Makes Him a Shonen Villain?[]

  • Villainous: Megatron has plunged the Cybertronians into a million year war that caused a lot of death and destruction in his conquest of domination. He also committed many atrocities, such as killing Ironhide as well as many other Autobots, and brainwashing several to join the dark side, trying to suck Earth dry, killing Optimus in the movie, and trying to destroy the solar system as Galvatron.
  • Powerful/Skillful: As the leader of the Decepticons, he has considerable power, and on his own he has a lot of weaponry and high combat mastery.
  • Power-Hungry: Megatron seeks to rule Cybertron and the entire universe.
  • Pursues a Big-End Goal: Megatron's main goal is to conquer the universe and decimate the Autobots.
  • Arrogant: Megatron is overconfident and believes that he is better than the Autobots and can easily defeat them, only to be proven wrong almost every time.
  • Intelligent: While occasionally buffoonish, Megatron is a highly intelligent leader who is able to pull off excellent gambits throughout the series.
  • Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: Megatron holds no regard to anyone, even his minions as he only respects them for their power, and he also breaks every truce he has ever held with the Autobots.
  • Short-Tempered: Megatron is quick to anger whenever Starscream tries to betray him or acts incompetent.
  • Laughably Evil: While taken seriously compared to his peers, as a villain from a 1980s cartoon, Megatron has a lot of hilarious moments.
  • Psychopathic: He holds no regard toward morals and kindness, to the point of finding heroism nonsensical, and often uses underhanded tactics in fights.
  • Has a Sinister Laugh: Megatron often laughs openly on multiple instances such as when thinking of something villainous or at Optimus and the Autobots to taunt them.
  • Sadistic: Megatron is an immense sadist who shows pleasure in seeing his victims' suffering.
  • Has Incompetent Minions: While the Decepticons are not incompetent per se (with characters such as Soundwave being extremely competent and skilled at their job), they sometimes botch things up and fail at executing their plans due to several factors such as infighting and arrogance (Starscream being a notable example).
  • Serves as a Foil to the Hero/Protagonist: Megatron is a foil to Optimus Prime as while Optimus is a heroic beacon and symbol of peace and salvation, Megatron is a villainous beam and symbol of war and destruction.
  • Bloodthirsty: Megatron enjoys causing violence and has killed a lot of Autobots to get to his goals.
  • Is a Secondary-Colored Nemesis: Megatron has black parts on his body and has a purple aura and Decepticon logo. He is also mainly blue-purple and has an orange gun as Galvatron.
  • Is a Dark Lord: Megatron has drawn many Autobots and even neutral Cybetronians to become Decepticons through brainwashing.
  • Has Black Air Force Energy: Megatron's aggressive attitude and constant disregard for established rules certainly holds him here on high regard.
