“ | I'd just like to hear the story. I mean, I paid a lot of money for that story, so I think I can hear it as much as I want. So... tell me again. | „ |
~ Lalo to Saul. |
“ | Let them keep believing I'm dead. So much the better. It was the chicken man. That coward sat up there in the north while his paramilitaries came into my home... my home, Uncle! Screw Bolsa, screw Eladio. I'm coming north. I'm going to hurt him. Hurt him like you taught me. And then I will kill him. | „ |

Don Eduardo "Lalo" Salamanca is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Chuck McGill) of the 2015 AMC crime drama series Better Call Saul.
He is a member of the Salamanca Family who is affiliated with The Cartel and is also the eldest nephew of Hector Salamanca; in addition to being the cousin of Tuco alongside both Marco and Leonel, as well as an uncle to Joaquin altogether. Originally coming to New Mexico to run Hector's business for him, he eventually flees back to Mexico and begins a crusade against Hector's sworn archenemy Gus Fring following a failed assassination attempt.
He was portrayed by Tony Dalton.
What Makes Him a Shonen Villain?[]
- Villainous/Anti-Villainous: He is the most heinous villain in Better Call Saul (with several villains such as Nacho, Mike and Bolsa even failing the heinous standard to him), committing a hefty ton of horrific acts such as setting a hotel with fire after aiding his uncle Hector in torturing the hotel's owner while his wife listened on the phone, beating Fred Whalen to death, torturing and likely killing Casper and infamously killing Howard Hamlin out of spite in front of Saul and Kim, leaving both of them severely traumatized for several years. He also has one of the highest kill counts in the franchise as a whole with 22 kills under his belt (26 if you include his 5 indirect kills).
- Powerful/Skillful: He is a don of the cartel who serves as one of its enforcers and distributors. However, since he doesn't use his cartel resources to commit his numerous heinous acts, he's just an average man.
- Power-Hungry: He reveals to Jimmy that his motto is "just make money", highlighting his hunger for greed.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: His main goal is to kill Gus and find proof that he is the one who tried to assassinate him.
- Arrogant: He is happy and proud with the crimes he commits.
- Intelligent: Since he's a Magnificent Baddie, he's one of the franchise's smartest characters, being able to fake his death to lure Gus out and having a deceptive and charming faux affable personality.
- Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: He only cares for his family and henchmen...and no one else outside of them.
- Short-Tempered: Although his breakdowns aren't prominent to his character, he does act out of rage sometimes, but is mostly able to compose himself afterward.
- Psychopathic: A gleeful sadist, he commits his crimes calmly and even dies with a smile.
- Sadistic: He shot Howard in the head with no hesitation and when Saul and Kim freaked out about seeing their friend die right in front of them, Lalo's response was to shush them and simply say "let's talk".
- Serves as a Foil to the Hero/Protagonist: He is essentially the evil counterpart of Saul Goodman.
- Bloodthirsty: His speciality is violence and he'll kill anyone whenever and wherever he wants.
- Has Comedic Moments: His charming and charismatic exterior enables him to have some funny moments.
- Is a Dark Lord: He scarred Jimmy for life and moulded him into the crooked lawyer known as Saul Goodman.
