Dimentio is the main antagonist of the 2007 role-playing video game Super Paper Mario.
He is a deceptive, wicked, and sinister harlequin-esque wizard of largely unknown origin. Malevolent and selfish to the finish, he intends to use the Pure Hearts (including the Chaos Heart) to destroy the multiverse and rule his own version of it.
What Makes Him a Shonen Villain?[]
- Villainous: He is easily the most unambiguously heinous character in the story, Dimentio's ultimate goal manages to disgust all the other villains, including Count Bleck and even Paper Bowser.
- Powerful/Skillful: Even aside from his manipulation and intuition, Dimentio is powerful as well as practiced master of dimensional magic. Possessing a wide variety of strange mystic capabilities, they prove more than sufficient to make him a specially dangerous and formidable threat.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: Dimentio intends to erase the entirety of the multiverse for the sake of recreating and ruling his own new one in his own image.
- Intelligent: He shows to be even more intelligent than Count Bleck himself. Not only was he able to quickly deduce that he couldn't challenge the latter himself, he forms together a near-seamless plan to gather the Pure Hearts and weaken the count on his behalf. His cleverness is also emphasized by how efficiently he was able to manipulate him, the other minions, as well as the heroes into serving his plans.
- Arrogant: Dimentio brazenly looks down on others in general. On multiple occasions, he openly presents himself as a jerk to both the heroes and his associates, constantly making remarks at the expense of his subject.
- Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: To the fullest. Dimentio utterly lacks even the smallest semblance of redeeming qualities, having absolutely no compassion to him. He is utterly emotionless and without feeling, going as far as mocking kindness shown by others.
- Sadistic: He is openly sadistic and cruel often for the sake of his own enjoyment. Even after Count Bleck was beaten up close to the brink of death by the heroes, he intentionally hits and near-fatally injures Nastasia with one of his fireballs to torment him even more.
- Bloodthirsty: He is arguably the most bloodthirsty and needlessly violent villain in the story. For starters, Dimentio well manages to prove himself having no scruple towards harming innocents, as he intends to literally erase the entire multiverse full of such. The second example would be indirectly getting Fracktail destroyed trying to have him kill the heroes and betray his benevolent purpose merely to stir up chaos for them.
- Laughably Evil: Especially for such a dark story, he has plenty humorous moments true to his own theme. Though often at cruel expense to others, he well manages to convey his own sense of humor and be found thoroughly entertaining with such appeal.
- Is a Game Changer: He is sort of one. Although he is quite comedic in spite of the already dark tone of the story, he proved to be just as dark and ruthless as the Shadow Queen herself. Not only is he just as serious a threat, the nature of his actions are likewise played for pitch black horror by the narrative.
- Psychopathic: One of the most deranged villains in the Mario franchise and rivals even Kefka Palazzo in sheer insanity.
- Has Incompetent Minions: Although he does serve as a minion himself, it is only for his own purpose, as he is still given a higher rank over O’Chunks and Mimi. Even with his assistance, the former nevertheless failed him. He also subtly belittled O’Chunks for his misaligned ratio of brawn-to-brains.
- Is a Secondary-Color Nemesis: He wears plenty of black and purple.
- Has a Sinister Laugh: Although his dialogue is (obviously) only read in text rather than being audible, he is frequently shown to laugh in a mocking if not also somewhat disturbing tone.
