~ Death relishing in Puss' fear after drawing blood from him. |
“ | Death: Sorry to crash the party with your past lives, or your past deaths, as I like to call them. I was there to witness all of them. Each. Frivolous. End. But you... didn't even notice me, because "Puss in Boots laughs in the face of Death", right? But you're not laughing now. Puss: You are no bounty hunter. You are... Death: Death. And I don't mean it metaphorically or rhetorically or poetically or theoretically or any other fancy way. I'm Death. Straight. Up. And I've come for you, Puss in Boots. Puss: But, I'm still alive! Death: [Chuckles] You know... [inhales] I'm not a cat person. I find the very idea of nine lives absurd. And you didn't value any of them. |

~ Death revealing his true identity to Puss. |
Death is the overarching antagonist of DreamWorks' 43rd full-length animated feature film Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, a spin-off of the Shrek franchise and the sequel to Puss in Boots. He is a sinister wolf and the physical embodiment of death who seeks to kill Puss in Boots for wasting his eight lives and teach him to cherish his ninth and last remaining life.
He was voiced by Wagner Moura.
What Makes Him a Shonen Villain?[]
- Villainous/Anti-Villainous: He spends the whole movie trying to kill Puss and manages to strike enough fear into his heart to give him PTSD that culminates in a panic attack, since Puss fears that Death could be lurking about anywhere and could kill him at any point.
- Powerful/Skillful: He is shown to be a master fighter in the final battle where he has a sick battle with Puss.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: His main goal is to give Puss a good reason to understand that he doesn't need 9 lives to be happy and fulfilled, but rather 1 normal life since he was fed up of Puss being too arrogant and careless for his own sake.
- Arrogant: He claims that multiple people have tried to stop him before but never succeeded in a condescending voice (though his arrogance is a very minor part of his character given he is an MB).
- Intelligent: He was nearly able to kill Puss in their first encounter and psychologically torments him into a metaphorical corner.
- Laughably Evil: While he is played completely for horror, he has a snarky sense of humor and has a minor funny moment where he says "he's not a cat person" when confronting Puss.
- Narcissistic: He takes pride in the mere fact that he has never faced defeat in his lifetime, being the literal embodiment of the concept of death itself.
- Sadistic: While he is doing his job, he takes twisted pleasure in it.
- Bloodthirsty: He uses violence as a means to traumatize and intimidate Puss into cherishing his last life.
- Is a Game Changer: He darkens the atmosphere of the light-hearted movie whenever he's onscreen.
- Has Black Air Force Energy: He acts very aggressive towards Puss in their battle and briefly has a breakdown that lasts for a very short period of time and ends up in him quickly calming back down.
