Dave is the main antagonist of the 2014 DreamWorks movie Penguins of Madagascar, which is a spinoff of the Madagascar films. He is a giant purple Pacific octopus who seeks revenge on penguins for stealing the spotlight from him for many years.
He was voiced by John Malkovich.
What Makes Him a Shonen Villain?[]
- Villainous/Anti-Villainous: He horrifically experiments on countless penguins with a serum that turns them into monsters against his will before proceeding to unleash them on the entire world to have the penguins killed by humans, and he even planned on doing the same to other cute species like kittens, puppies, bunnies and pandas, which is essentially a plan to commit mass genocide.
- Powerful/Skillful: He makes the best of every resource he has at his disposal and has a powerful serum that allows him to mutate animals into monsters.
- Power-Hungry: He only prioritizes glory and attention.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: His main goal is to get revenge on the penguin species for stealing the spotlight from him for many years.
- Arrogant: He views himself as superior compared to penguins.
- Intelligent: He can effortlessly communicate with humans in his disguises
- Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: He cares for nobody but himself, and even him "caring" for his fellow Octopi is too vague to be considered redeeming.
- Laughably Evil: He has some funny moments like awkwardly trying to make the penguins remember who he is, a running gag of him giving orders to his henchmen that are references to famous actors (e.g. "Nicholas, cage them"), and his defeat of getting shrunken down and placed in a snow globe which was shaken vigorously by a girl who was supposedly trying to connect with him at first.
- Psychopathic: He is incapable of showing any feelings besides vengefulness.
- Narcissistic: He is obsessed with himself as he loved getting recognition from people at Central Park Zoo.
- Sadistic: He shows no qualms about hurting people and will turn animals into monsters with a smile or chuckle.
- Freudian Excuse: He was originally a happy octopus until the penguins grabbed the spotlight for themselves and caused him to be ignored for a long time, which explains/motivates his hatred of the penguin race.
- Bloodthirsty: He was willing to do what he did to penguins to numerous other species like cats, dogs, rabbits and pandas.
- Is a Game Changer: For all his comedic moments, he darkens the tone of the movie with him seemingly killing Private being portrayed as a real tearjerker.
- Has Black Air Force Energy: He loves being hostile and intimidating to penguins, even those who do nothing to him.
