Darth Vader, also known as Anakin Skywalker, is the secondary antagonist of the Star Wars Franchise. He is a Sith Lord who serves as the enforcer to the Galactic Empire and the right-hand of Emperor Palpatine.

He is portrayed by the late David Prowse (as Vader) and voiced by the late James Earl Jones in the original trilogy, while his unmasked version at the end of Return of the Jedi was portrayed by the late Sebastian Shaw. In the prequels and Obi-Wan Kenobi, he was portrayed by Hayden Christensen as an adult and young adult and by Jake Lloyd as a child. In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, he was portrayed by Daniel Naprous and Spencer Wilding, while James Earl Jones returned to voice him. In The Clone Wars animated film and show, he was voiced by Matt Lanter. In several video games, he is voiced by Matt Sloan.

What Makes Him A Shonen Villain?[]

  • Villainous/Anti-Villainous: As a Sith, he has committed countless atrocities under the name of the empire.
  • Powerful/Skillful: Is one of the most powerful Sith in the series.
  • Power-Hungry: As Anakin and even Vader, he always desired the highest position.
  • Pursues a Big-End Goal: Wanted to rule the empire alongside his son.
  • Arrogant: Is incredibly prideful and egotistical in his skills.
  • Intelligent: Is a brilliant strategist with notable experience in both sides of the Force.
  • Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: : As Vader, he came off as uncaring to those around him.
  • Short-Tempered: There is a reason why he is one of the most powerful Dark Side Users.
  • Tragic Past: As one of the longest suffering characters in fiction, he definitely meets this. Starting off as a slave in Tatooine, he was later raised by the Jedi, a cult of hypocrites, before greatly suffering the toll from the Clone Wars as well as the loss of his mother and wife. Finally, he was horrifically burned in the fires of Mustafar, cementing his transformation into Darth Vader.
  • Has Incompetent Minions: Has killed Admiral Ozzel due to his incompetence and stupidity.
  • Has Comedic Moments: As a Jedi, he had some comedic moments involving him acting immature (though they would completely drop after his transformation into Darth Vader).
  • Is a Secondary-Color Nemesis: Wears a black suit as Darth Vader.
  • Is a Dark Lord: Considering that he is a Sith, this one is pretty obvious.
