Toya Todoroki, better known as Dabi or Blueflame, is the secondary antagonist of the My Hero Academia franchise.
He is a member of the League of Villains and leader of its sub-group, the Vanguard Action Squad, who seemingly follows Stain's ideology and concepts. In reality, he is the eldest son of the superhero Enji Todoroki/Endeavor, seeking vengeance against him for his mistakes in the past. He is the arch-nemesis of both his father Endeavor and his youngest brother, Shoto Todoroki.
In the anime, he is voiced by Hiro Shimono in Japanese and Jason Liebrecht in the English dub.
What Makes Him a Shonen Villain?[]
- Villainous/Anti-Villainous: He went on a killing spree where he burned 30 people alive, endangered a city with a High End Nomu, burned Kamui Woods to stop him from rescuing Midnight, collapsed hero society by destroying the reputations of several heroes (including his own dad Endeavor and rival Hawks) which ruined countless lives and caused many Japanese civilians to lose their faith in heroes to the point where they fought dangerous villains on their own only to get killed by them as a result, tried to break Endeavor's will by killing his two other children in front of him and turned himself into a nuke to nearly blow up thousands of people, including his own family, in an act of spite.
- Powerful/Skillful: He once led a group called the Vanguard Action Squad and since their disbandment, he only has himself and some fire powers.
- Power-Hungry: He is so desperate for power that he refuses to forgive Enji for abusing him in his youth.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: His main goal is to destroy his dad's hero career and then kill his whole family (and later himself).
- Arrogant: He openly brags about how he's good at killing people.
- Intelligent: He spent his whole life plotting his father's downfall.
- Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: Beneath his calm exterior, he is an absolute jackass who takes pleasure in his villainy.
- Short-Tempered: He frequently snaps when things don't go his way, and he's extremely rude most of the time.
- Sadistic: He has a monologue where he belittles Endeavor and expresses pride about ruining his life (along with numerous other people's lives via damaging hero society with his background).
- Tragic Past: He was born with a Quirk that slowly kills him, had an existential crisis about not being able to fulfil the reason why he was born, faced abuse from his father Endeavor (who trained him to surpass All Might as Japan's Number 1 hero), nearly burned himself at a young age, was put into a 3-month coma and almost became a Nomu (which is treated like a FWTD in-universe) at an abusive orphanage and heard his family whispering about his presumed death, leading to him becoming the supervillain Dabi.
- Serves as a Foil to the Hero/Protagonist: He is a foil to both Hawks and Shoto, as he became a villain raised by a heroic family while Hawks became a hero despite being born to a family of evil people. Plus, their signature colors are stark contrasts with Hawks being yellow and Dabi being purple. In Shoto's case, Dabi found himself unable to realise that Endeavor felt remorse for abusing his family while Shoto forgave and accepted his father, knowing that people can be better if they willingly choose to.
- Bloodthirsty: He revels in killing people.
- Has Comedic Moments: He does a funny dance when he reveals himself to Endeavor, got temporary carsickness when Spinner drove a truck with him in it, and some of his interactions with Mr. Compress and Twice can come across as relatively funny.
