~ Bryce expressing his anger at Alex and Jessica for refusing to forgive him. |
Bryce Walker is the main antagonist of the 2017 Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, an adaptation of the 2007 novel by Jay Asher of the same name. He is a student at Liberty High School who is one of Hannah Baker's 12 reasons for why she killed herself. However, of all the tape subjects, he's the main reason for her suicide since he brutally raped Hannah at a party, breaking her soul. As such, he is the archenemy of the protagonist, Clay Jensen.
He was portrayed by Justin Prentice.
What Makes Him a Shonen Villain?[]
- Villainous/Anti-Villainous: He raped Hannah Baker at a party and pushed her to commit suicide due to her mentality being completely broken, sexually assaulted Jessica Davis and Chloe Rice (the latter of whom was his girlfriend at the same time and got impregnated as a result) and broke Zach Dempsey's kneecap in an act of spite for dating Chloe after their breakup.
- Powerful/Skillful: He is a fairly wealthy man who has control over the school due to his popularity and he's shown to be capable of hosting parties.
- Power-Hungry: He wants to boost his popularity streak by any means.
- Arrogant: Before Season 3, he brags about his crimes and shows no remorse for what he does.
- Intelligent: He can swiftly manipulate others with his charismatic façade.
- Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: He is a huge jerk most of the time, and even in the third season where he attempts to undergo a redemption arc, he reverts back to his old ways by the end where he injures Zach.
- Short-Tempered: He loses his temper rather often.
- Laughably Evil: He is sometimes funny, but his heinous actions are taken dead seriously by the narrative.
- Sadistic: He felt no regret while raping Hannah, even telling her to relax.
- Freudian Excuse: He grew up with neglectful parents.
- Has Incompetent Minions: Monty de la Cruz works for him.
- Serves as a Foil to the Hero/Protagonist: He is the morally worse counterpart of Clay Jensen who is the protagonist while Bryce is the main antagonist.
- Bloodthirsty: While he never tries to kill anyone, he has some violent moments like beating up Clay when he confronted him and busting out Zach's knee.
- Is a Game Changer: Everything was normal until Bryce came around and became the reason why Hannah went through with her intention to commit suicide.
- Is a Dark Lord: He enabled the crimes committed by Monty, Marcus and Clay (in the fourth season) one way or another.
