You can't be a killer and a hero. IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY!
~ Brian Moser to his brother, Dexter Morgan.

Brian Moser, also known as the Ice Truck Killer and Rudy Cooper, is the secondary antagonist of the Dexter crime drama television franchise.

He is revealed to be the biological brother of Dexter Morgan, the protagonist, separated from him after witnessing the brutal murder of their mother in a shipping container by Hector Estrada's drug cartel. The event inflicted both boys with severe psychological trauma that created homicidal compulsions inside of them. While Dexter was adopted by officer Harry Morgan and taught to channel his urges to kill other murderers, Brian grew up neglected in foster homes and a mental institution, developing into a cold serial killer who targets prostitutes, drains their blood, and leaves their bodies dismembered and frozen in public displays.

He becomes engaged to Debra Morgan, Dexter's adoptive sister, utilizing his charisma as part of an elaborate scheme to reconnect with Dexter and have him embrace his "true" self. Brian represents a darker mirror of what Dexter could have become without Harry's guidance and the "Code." Dexter ultimately chooses his loyalty to his adoptive family over his biological brother, killing Brian and framing it as a suicide to protect Debra and maintain his established life.

He is portrayed by Christian Camargo in Dexter. In Original Sin, he is portrayed by Roby Attal.

What Makes Him a Shonen Villain?[]

  • Villainous/Anti-Villainous: He is a serial killer who eliminated many people, including those who were responsible for his mental health treatment while denying him the opportunity to see his brother. He even dismembered one of them alive with a chainsaw. He would later become the Ice Truck Killer and murder prostitutes in a vile fashion; killing them, draining their bodies of blood, dismembering them, and freezing their severed body parts in refrigerated trucks. He also mutilated Tony Tucci, killed his own father, and tried to have Dexter kill his adoptive sister, Debra, and forgo his moral "code" to instead kill indiscriminately.
  • Powerful/Skillful: He is strategically formidable due to the way he evades detection while playing a cat-and-mouse game with Dexter using his murder displays, killing many people through skilled murder methodology and getting away with it for long. He also possesses a lot of manipulative charisma and manages to convince Debra and others that he is nothing more than a charming prosthetist.
  • Power-Hungry: He enjoys controlling and dominating other people, especially vulnerable ones like prostitutes. With Dexter on his side, he seeks to become an even more powerful force.
  • Pursues a Big-End Goal: His ultimate goal is to connect with his estranged brother and have him fully commit to the role of a ruthless serial killer as his partner in crime. It consumes his entire life.
  • Arrogant: He is arrogant to both Dexter and Debra, especially the latter, as he has a condescending attitude when he mocks them for their weakness or plays mind games. Also, his belief that Dexter should join him in killing rather than following Harry’s Code suggests a high level of self-importance, as he assumes his way is the only "true" path for Dexter and that they are similar, even though Dexter has a moral high ground and possesses genuine care for others.
  • Intelligent: He has advanced problem-solving skills, meticulous planning, and uses psychologically manipulative tactics on his enemies. He is very cunning, as he has the ability to evade law enforcement and leave intricate crime scenes with hidden messages for Dexter.
  • Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: He has killed at least 24 people without any remorse or second-thought, and sometimes in very brutal ways. Dexter even described him aptly as "a killer without reason or regret."
  • Short-Tempered: He gets heated when Dexter appears to embrace his vigilante killer identity instead of killing Debra, yelling at him while insisting that his life is contradictory.
  • Laughably Evil: He sometimes has witty lines or remarks through his charismatic persona, though they never detract from how heinous he is.
  • Psychopathic: He kills without any empathy or due concern for anyone, and is confirmed to have been diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder.
  • Narcissistic: He excessively admires himself due to his gruesome identity as the Ice Truck Killer, taking pride in it while belittling those who fall victim to him, especially Debra. Additionally, his belief that Dexter should accept his ideology of killing without moral restraint shows his egotism and entitlement.
  • Sadistic: He enjoys psychologically and physically tormenting other people, sometimes ridiculing his victims for their fate.
  • Tragic Past: Alongside Dexter, he witnessed his mother's brutal murder by drug dealers using a chainsaw, and this is an event he recalls with clarity, unlike his Dexter, who suppressed these memories. Both boys were discovered after two days beside their bloodied mother, but Harry showed favoritism toward Dexter before eventually separating them, believing that Brian was beyond help, as the trauma inflicted upon him led to his sociopathic tendencies. He was then subjected to years of abuse in foster care followed by institutionalization until age 21, sustained only by the false promises of reuniting with his brother. During his time in the mental facility, he was exploited by Raul Martinez, who profited from selling his medications instead of administering them, all while pretending to care. When he fought Raul about this, he was put in solitary confinement. He later confided to his therapist that his apparent progress was motivated solely by the hope of seeing Dexter again, and he killed him after being told that reconnecting with his brother would be disallowed to due it being a "trigger" that would hurt his recovery. His medical records, which Harry later discovered, also indicated that he had Major Depressive Disorder.
  • Serves as a Foil to the Hero/Protagonist: As Dexter's biological brother, Brian shares similar dark urges due to the same experiences, but fully embraces his homicidal nature without a moral code by targeting innocents, unlike Dexter, who follows the "Code of Harry" to only kill criminals. He is a direct parallel to Dexter and shows what he could've become if it wasn't for Harry and the connections he made.
  • Bloodthirsty: Brian is extremely bloodthirsty, relishing in and living for violence against innocent people.
  • Is a Secondary-Color Nemesis: He often wears black clothing.
  • Is a Dark Lord: He tries to influence Dexter to become unapologetically evil, just like himself.
  • Has Black Air Force Energy: He has a flagrant disregard for established rules and anything resembling human decency, as he coldly dismembers people, leaves their bodies as messages, toys with Dexter through elaborate projects, and even tried to suffocate an infant Debra when he was a child.
