Bowser is the main antagonist of the 2023 movie adaptation film The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
He is voiced by Jack Black in English and Kenta Miyake in Japanese.
What Makes Him A Shonen Villain?[]
- Villainous: He serves as a remarkable enemy to Mario and Luigi by his many acts throughout the film that includes not only kidnapping Peach, but also stealing the power star for himself and seeking to kill everyone in the Mushroom Kingdom (as well as attempting to decimate it with a Bomber Bill), and seeking to cause terror and havoc in Brooklyn City to spread his tyranny anywhere.
- Powerful/Skillful: Is skilled at using fire breath, has allies who can help him cause dismay to others such as Kamek with his magical powers, and was able to collect stars on his own in order to become powerful.
- Power-Hungry: The reason he invaded the Penguin Kingdom was to steal the powerful Super Star and conquer the world and eventually the Mushroom Kingdom by marrying Peach with power.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: He seeks to rule the entire world with the power of the Super Star and the hand in marriage of Princess Peach.
- Arrogant: He taunts Mario a lot in the film and has a lot of pride in himself even when defeated and outmaneuvered.
- Intelligent: He was able to manipulate Luigi into giving answers for where Mario is.
- Freudian Excuse: His obsession to marry Peach is arguably one of his biggest goals in life besides world conquest.
- Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: He is generally an abusive boss to his minions and troops, especially Kamek.
- Short-Tempered: Bowser was easily angered (especially when his eyes glow bright red out of sheer anger) when Mario got in the way of marrying Peach by force and when he gets insulted and due to his temper, he can easily break out of his icy prison with sheer jealousy when he saw Mario and Peach happily reunite and holding each other's hands.
- Sadistic: Is so incredibly cruel that he considers "torture" to be a learning factor to inflict on his minions and took delight in destroying a castle that penguins inhabited in, tried to torture Toad to make Peach marry Bowser, and he also furiously tore a piece of Luigi's moustache to get answers out of him.
- Vengeful: He wanted to attack and harm and torment his brother and Donkey Kong while causing havoc all over Brooklyn to get revenge from those who took his "soulmate" Peach.
- Bloodthirsty: He brutally attacked, beat up and tried to kill Mario without provocation.
- Is a Dark Lord: Bowser influences all of his minions to destroy and defeat Mario and attacking New York City.
- Laughably Evil: His humor comes from his preaching to his army about his lust for Peach (as well as improvising a act of practicing said approach with Kamek dressing up as Peach before actually proposing to her with embarassment and a awkward approach), his comical defeat of being put in a jar, and especially his iconic self-made serenade he made called "Peaches".
- Calls Out Attacks: Does several roars to signal his attacks to Mario like he did in the games. Another specific example is when he ordered his troops to face the Bros, commanding them to “Rip ‘em to pieces.”
- Narcissistic: Bowser has a incredibly massive obsession with himself to the point of viewing himself as a king of all kingdoms.
- Psychopathic: This version is more unhinged and psychopathic than his game counterpart, be it multiple mood swings, violent outbursts, homicidal and violent tendencies, and villainous breakdown in the climax of the movie.
- Is a Game Changer: While still having humorous scenes, he's the darkest incarnation of Bowser to date, being a genuine threat to the heroes, completely lack of redeeming qualities, and is also an unhinged sociopath.
