King Bowser Koopa Sr., best known as simply Bowser or King Koopa, is the main antagonist of the Super Mario franchise.

He is voiced by Scott Burns from 2002 to 2007 and Kenny James.

What Makes Him A Shonen Villain?[]

  • Villainous: He serves as a genuine threat to Mario by his many acts to kidnap Peach, turning the Toads into inanimate objects, and sending his minions and offsprings to wreak havoc across different regions of the Mushroom Kingdom. Plus, he invaded the Sprixie Kingdom to imprison their princesses and has taken over Prince Florian's Castle by fusing with it and wreaking much havoc over the Flower Kingdom.
  • Powerful/Skillful: Has the resources to create tons of castles, a ship, has shown to conquer many kingdoms and has shown to have several skills such as incredible fire breath, superhuman strength, a spiky shell used for an attack, and high jumping ability.
  • Power-Hungry: Big time. Once planned to use the power of the Grand Stars to destroy the galaxy in order to create his own galaxy in the center of the universe with his Galaxy Reactor so that he would be able to conquer and rule with a iron fist as a galactic tyrant. Heck, this is why he absorbed the Dream Stone so he could murder the Mario Bros. and take over the entire world for himself.
  • Pursues a Big-End Goal: He frequently tries to take over many kingdoms and even rule the universe itself several times in order to spread his tyranny throughout.
  • Arrogant: Arguably his main weakness that prevents him from defeating Mario. As he often thinks Mario will fall for anything, and making traps since he expected Mario to get easily trampled up.
  • Intelligent: Despite originally having rather stupid and impractical plans to kill Mario in the original first two Super Mario Bros games that puts himself more vulnerable than necessary (and the New Super Mario Bros games and even Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario 3D World), he does become somewhat smarter in some future titles. Such to the point where he has tricked Mario into putting down a cardboard cutout of Peach and took the real Peach to a different castle, and even used his element of surprise with a hat that sends Mario flying on a journey of collecting stars in Super Mario Odyssey.
  • Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: He is a tyrannical king who tried to flood the world if it meant giving him the ability to cause misery for the lives of others.
  • Short-Tempered: Bowser is very temperamental and has many moments of anger outbursts.
  • Serves as a Foil to the Hero/Protagonist: He is an evil counterpart to Mario himself.
  • Bloodthirsty: Has been planning on killing the Mario Bros. multiple times.
  • Is a Dark Lord: Bowser influences the Koopalings and his own son Bowser Jr. to destroy and defeat Mario and capturing Peach.
  • Laughably Evil: A majority of Bowser's humorous moments comes from his defeats and plans backfiring on him as a result of his arrogance, and even became a comic relief rival in some sport titles.
  • Is a Secondary-Color Nemesis: Bowser has a green face and shell as well as yellow-orange skin.
  • Calls Out Attacks: Does several roars to signal his attacks to Mario.
  • Sadistic: He takes great pleasure in doing the horrid things.
  • Narcissistic: Bowser has a penchant for putting his own giant face on the front of his castles and flying fortresses.
  • Psychopathic: Bowser's lack of remorse for the havoc and destruction he caused throughout the series, but more saddened by his own losses.
  • Is a Game Changer: While he has his comedic moments, most of the time Bowser showing up is when things get serious, especially in games like Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Paper Jam and Bowser's Fury.
  • Has a Sinister Laugh: In future installments, he is heard giving off an evil laugh while committing a misdeed.
