Barry Charles is the secondary antagonist of the Cartoon Network animated series We Bare Bears. He is the leader of the criminal organization known as the Techies Gang and seeks to earn the respect of his father, who is the CEO of an unnamed billion dollar company. He is also Ice Bear's arch-nemesis.
He is voiced by Kevin McHale.
What Makes Him a Shonen Villain?[]
- Villainous: He commits a number of crimes in his two episode appearances. In "Icy Nights" he steals the Roomba and reprograms it to be an arena fighter, and attempts to use it to fight against Ice Bear in his robot arena, even destroying it when Ice Bear regains control of it. In "Icy Nights II" he kidnaps Yana to coerce Ice Bear into handing over the Roomba, and later tries to kill them both after successfully getting ahold of the vacuum. Overall, he is completely unsympathetic and has no redeeming qualities over the course of the story, showing no remorse for his crimes in his two episode appearances.
- Powerful/Skillful: He is skilled with technology, specifically programming robots. He is also very intelligent, masterminding schemes in the Icy Nights duology to accomplish his goals. He also controls the biggest of his robots and fights against Ice Bear and Yana, ultimately gaining the upper hand until Ice Bear has the Roomba use its axe to destroy the robot's screen.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: He strives to steal Ice Bear's Roomba vacuum cleaner to earn the respect of his strict father, who is the head of an unnamed billion dollar company that desperately seeks to obtain Roomba's tech for profit purpose.
- Arrogant: He is very arrogant because he is very prideful of himself, and he almost succeeds in stealing the Roomba in "Icy Nights II" only to screw up hard by underestimating the vacuum's tiny axe and laughing at how ridiculous it is, distracting him long enough for Ice Bear to deliver the final blow.
- Intelligent: He is highly intelligent as the leader of the Techies Gang, being skilled at technology (specifically programming robots) and demonstrates a strategic mind, which results in his schemes being nearly successful.
- Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: In "Icy Nights II", he kidnaps Yana in order to make Ice Bear give him the Roomba, and later tries to murder them both when he sees that they are no longer of use to him after he gets the Roomba, all just so he can get his father's respect.
- Short-Tempered: He is shown to frequently insult the people who work for him and also irritable when it comes to the topic of him seeking his father's approval.
- Laughably Evil: He has a few minor comedic moments in "Icy Nights II", such as lashing out at Yana for thinking he has a crush and having a running gag of Yana poking fun at the topic of him seeking his father's approval.
- Psychopathic: He has no problem with harming and even killing other people, as shown when he reprograms the Roomba and makes it fight against Ice Bear, kidnaps Yana to lure Ice Bear into a trap, and tries to finish off Ice Bear and Yana with his giant robot.
- Narcissistic: He is egotistical for seeking his father's approval and being pretty sensitive about it.
- Has a Sinister Laugh: He laughs evilly after the Roomba is destroyed in "Icy Nights", while trying to kill Ice Bear and Yana in "Icy Nights II", and when he sees how tiny the Roomba's axe is.
- Sadistic: He is shown to enjoy tormenting others, as shown in "Icy Nights" when he orders the destruction of the Roomba while laughing evilly with his minions which provokes Ice Bear into a rage, and in "Icy Nights II" when he laughs maniacally while fighting Ice Bear and Yana with the biggest of his robots and trying to kill them with a laser and displays a sinister grin on his face while laughing as he prepares to finish them off with his robot's giant laser cannon.
- Has Incompetent Minions: In "Icy Nights", his fellow techies fail to take down Ice Bear through the use of their combat robots during the fight in the battle arena, with the latter destroying all of the robots in a fit of rage after one of them destroyed the Roomba. In "Icy Nights II", he uses robot bodyguards that have a very obvious flaw in the form of cell phone heads, as a hit to the head will destroy the robot; they fail to prevent Ice Bear and Yana from escaping and are destroyed by the pair.
- Is a Game Changer: He darkens the overall mood of the Icy Nights duology, with "Icy Nights II" being darker than "Icy Nights" due to the attempted murder on Ice Bear and Yana which could be considered one of the darkest moments of the show. He is taken the most seriously out of all the show's villains alongside Dave from "The Island". Despite this, he is not without a few minor comedic moments.
