Alastor, better known as the Radio Demon, is one of the two tritagonists (along with Angel Dust) of the 2024 adult animated black comedy musical show Hazbin Hotel. He is a former serial killer in life who is the arch-rival of Vox and Lucifer and the most powerful Overlord in Hell. Even though he is mostly a rude and self-serving person who only cares about his happiness more than others, he is still not without his good traits and has even done a lot of heroic acts (with some of them being outright altruistic).
He is voiced by Amir Talai.
What Makes Him a Shonen Villain?[]
- Villainous/Anti-Villainous: Back when he was alive, he was a serial killer who went around killing a bunch of people. Upon going to Hell, he hosted a radio show where he abducted and tortured numerous overlords to death, broadcasting their screams for all his listeners to hear. He's still lethal now as he not only devours any demons inferior to him, which is essentially cannibalism, but he brutally and sadistically murdered a group of loan sharks to defend the hotel. He also enslaved Husk after he sold his soul to him, makes fun of Charlie's dad Lucifer to spite him and, if his lines in the song "Finale" are any indication, he intends to betray Charlie and "pull all the strings" after reclaiming his soul from a currently unknown entity.
- Powerful/Skillful: He can transform into a demon, is able to use voodoo magic, is a very smart and strong figure and has antlers that he can use to shapeshift.
- Power-Hungry: He seeks to "unclip his wings" and get back his freedom so he can enforce his evil plan.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: His main goal is to defeat the Vees (mainly his rival Vox).
- Arrogant: He views himself as the better father for Charlie simply to get on Lucifer's nerves, cannibalises demons that he deems lesser than him and mocks others for fun.
- Intelligent: He keeps his cool 99% of the time (only losing his composure under extreme threat) and manipulated Charlie into making a deal with him in exchange for information regarding Carmilla Carmine killing one of Adam's soldiers.
- Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: He is a highly dangerous person that unnerves even Charlie due to how gruesome the way he killed off the loan sharks were. Even without that, he takes immense pleasure in torturing overlords on his radio show and likely traumatizes his audience by forcing them to hear his victims scream.
- Laughably Evil: While he is played for horror at times, he is still not without a sense of humor, as his sadism provides some comedy for the audience.
- Psychopathic: He thinks friendship is a weakness that must be sacrificed, always smiles in the most intimidating way possible, threatens Husk for the slightest of reasons and doesn't care if he makes people angry as long as he's happy about it afterward.
- Narcissistic: He cares for nearly no one but himself (though the only other people he likes are Rosie, Mimzy and Niffty).
- Has a Sinister Laugh: He laughs like a madman on multiple occasions throughout the first season.
- Sadistic: He takes joy in seeing others fail and loves mocking and riling people up.
- Tragic Past: He is greatly distressed and uncomfortable over his soul being owned and possessed by an unknown entity, as revealed in his breakdown in the first season's finale. It's even implied that said event drove him insane.
- Bloodthirsty: He took immense pleasure in torturing and killing numerous overlords, even allowing all of Hell to listen to their screams, and he slaughters demons that are insignificant in his eyes via eating them alive. He even outright voiced his intent to end Adam's life before their fight (though he definitely deserved it).
- Has Black Air Force Energy: He is more than happy to torture anyone, angrily threatened to kill Husk and make all of Hell listen to his scream and only helps Charlie for his own entertainment.
