~ Adam admitting during "Hell is Forever" that his slaughter of sinners is out of personal sadism. |
“ | No! You don't get to end this! I’m fucking Adam! I'm the fucking man, and you're just some fucking clown or something! I started everything on Earth! ALL of mankind came from these fucking nuts! You all should be worshipping me, you ungrateful, disgusting, fucking LOSERS! | „ |
~ Adam’s breakdown and last words before being fatally stabbed in the back by Niffty. |
Adam is the main antagonist of Season 1 of the adult animated musical comedy drama series Hazbin Hotel. He is the leader of an army of bloodthirsty mass murderers called the Exorcists who commit genocide on sinners every year in Hell. He's the best friend of Lute and Charlie Morningstar's arch-nemesis.
He was voiced by Alex Brightman.
Why Is He a Shonen Villain?[]
- Villainous: He came up with the idea of the Exterminations where countless sinners (his own descendants) are killed by the Exorcists and he makes them annual events that take place once a year (with it being confirmed he has done this for centuries, enabling him to amass a huge body count). He has additional crimes outside of that, like trying to break Charlie by revealing her girlfriend Vaggie used to be an Exorcist, attempting to destroy Hell and killing Sir Pentious right in front of a distraught Charlie and her friends.
- Powerful/Skillful: He is one of the most powerful characters in the series, being an angelic entity with a large army at his disposal and a surprising extent of strength (as he was able to severely wound and nearly kill Alastor himself during their battle).
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: His main goal is to keep killing sinners for entertainment purposes.
- Arrogant: He brags about how good he is a lot, whether it's about his music skills or power.
- Intelligent: Despite not being a mastermind, he is a good fighter and can be a genuine threat.
- Cold-Hearted/Ruthless: He is a sadistic madman who has committed mass murders/genocides for hundreds of years.
- Short-Tempered: He gets mad frequently, even in his many comical moments that mainly show he's a rude and sexist manchild that doesn't deserve the power he wields.
- Psychopathic: He shows no empathy for people in general and lacks any remorse for his crimes, with the only time he showed authentic emotion is when he smiled at Lute before his death (proving his care for her was genuine).
- Sadistic: He openly admits to slaughtering sinners on a yearly basis for his own twisted amusement.
- Serves as a Foil to the Hero/Protagonist: He is the evil counterpart of Charlie herself, as while Charlie sees the good in almost everyone and believes sinners can be redeemed as long as they genuinely want to change for the greater good, Adam has a near-inability to forgive others and thinks killing sinners is not only the sole way to reduce overpopulation in Hell, but also to teach them a "lesson".
- Bloodthirsty: He loves hurting people, even hurting and traumatizing Alastor with a smile and taunting him when he retreated.
- Has Comedic Moments: The fact that he intentionally has a laughably evil presence prevents him from being a Hate Sink, as he has a giant plethora of comedic moments such as bragging about being "the Dickmaster" and finding sexual pleasure in the romantic relationship between Charlie and Vaggie.
- Is a Secondary-Color Nemesis: His outfit's colour scheme is mostly white with a bit of yellow and black.
- Is a Dark Lord: He's somewhat responsible for Vaggie's villainy given he trained her to be a bloodthirsty mass murderer offscreen prior to her redemption before the series even began.
